Im looking for a car right now. I would like a good affordable car thats 12,000 and under. I dont want a big truck or SUV i just want a normal sized car. I travel alot so i dont want a super small car i want it to be a little spacey, and have a good sized trunk. It has to have pretty good gas millage. What are some cars you recommend for me?
I want a used car! |

If I were you, I'd look at domestic (unless you prefer import). Domestics are less expensive to buy and maintain. Ford Fusion or Chevy Malibu.

Nobody can give you a good recommendation based you what you provided. We dont know where you live (snow belt? gulf coast?) Do you have kids to shuttle around? Highway or city commute? Or what you want to bother with for things like maintenance and insurance.
You could find a used Camry for $12K and a used BMW 5 series for $12K - both are midsize. But the condition, mileage and cost of ownership will differ greatly. You need to get suggestions from someone that knows you, your tastes, lifestyle and budget. |

Take a look at the 2007 or newer Hyundai Elantra. Great highway car. I get about 32 to 34 mpg. just returned from a trip over the Memorial Day holiday. I got a touch over 31 mpg with a bicycle on the hitch rack. Trunk is surprisingly roomy. Comfortable seats. Great warranty.
One word of caution. The stock tires were horrible in the snow. No traction. So I purchased four Bridgestone Blizzak snow and ice tires on steel rims from the Tire Rack out of South Bend, Indiana. Winter driving problems solved. I mount winter tires around late November/early December and mount stock tires when snow forecasts end around late March/early April. I do recommend tinting the windows. Car has a lot of glass and tinting will increase your comfort on a blazing hot, sunny day. I also purchased the trunk liner from Hyundai. Well worth the money. I purchased from Auto Anything a custom made sun shade. Does a great job of keeping the sun off the interior. |

It should be 4-door, 4-cyls, not sporty. I would prefer Honda or Toyota... First time drivers usually have much more expensive car insurance, and it depends from car. You should compare insurance rates while choosing the car - for example here - carinsurance.yoll.net

just go to your nearby mechanic and you will get all the categories you need, it should be affordable and they will give you details on the mileage, which i think is most important.
